These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Manabit.ai website and application (the “Service”), available at manabit.ai. By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

Manabit.ai is a Japanese-language learning application that generates short reading texts around the vocabulary you are learning, combined with a spaced-repetition scheduling system, comprehension quizzes, and progress tracking. Text generation uses a third-party AI model (see our Privacy Policy for details on how this works).

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. If you are between 16 and the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you confirm that a parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf, in particular for any paid subscription. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16.

Access to the Service requires an account, created via a one-time “magic link” sent to your email address — no password is used or stored for regular accounts. You are responsible for keeping access to your registered email address secure, and for all activity that occurs under your account. Each person may hold only one account (see Section 6 below).

New accounts receive a 14-day free trial starting from registration, no payment method required. After the trial ends, if you have not subscribed, the Service switches to a degraded mode: your dashboard, study history, streak, and spaced-repetition review of words you have already encountered remain available, but generation of new study sessions (new reading texts) is disabled.

To continue generating new sessions after the trial, you must subscribe to a paid plan, billed either monthly or annually, at the price shown at checkout. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled beforehand. We may change subscription prices from time to time; any change will be communicated in advance and will apply from your next renewal, not retroactively.

Payments are processed by Paddle.com Market Limited, acting as our Merchant of Record. Paddle is the seller of record for your purchase, handles billing, tax collection/remittance, and payment support, and may present its own terms at checkout in addition to these Terms. See our Refund Policy for cancellation and refund rules.

Generating text and running the Service has a real cost to us. To keep Manabit.ai sustainable and fair to all users, you agree not to:

• Create or use more than one account per person, including to obtain additional free trials, or register using disposable/temporary email addresses for that purpose;
• Access or use the Service through automated means (bots, scripts, scrapers) or in any way that circumvents normal, manual human use of the interface;
• Attempt to bypass, disable, or manipulate usage limits, trial gating, or the subscription/degraded-mode mechanism described in Section 5;
• Resell, redistribute, or publish generated texts or Service content in bulk, or represent them as your own original work in a commercial context;
• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the underlying models, prompts, or source code of the Service, beyond what applicable law allows;
• Attempt payment fraud, initiate abusive or bad-faith chargebacks, or otherwise misuse the billing system;
• Harass, abuse, or interfere with other users or our staff.

We may suspend or terminate any account, without refund, that we reasonably believe violates Section 6 — including suspected multi-account trial abuse. Where a violation causes us measurable damage (for example, AI generation costs caused by automated abuse), we reserve the right to seek recovery of those costs in addition to terminating the account.

The Service, including its design, software, and branding, is owned by us or our licensors. Reading texts generated for your account are provided for your personal, non-commercial study use; we do not claim ownership over the specific text generated for you, but you may not redistribute it at scale (see Section 6).

Vocabulary and dictionary data used by the Service is derived from JMDict/KANJIDIC2, made available by the Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group (EDRDG) under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike licence, and from a JLPT vocabulary reference list originally compiled by Jonathan Waller (tanos.co.uk) under a Creative Commons Attribution licence. We are grateful to both projects.

Reading texts and explanations are generated by an AI model and, while checked against dictionary data for vocabulary coverage, may occasionally contain grammatical errors, unnatural phrasing, or inaccuracies. The Service is a study aid, not a certified language course, and does not guarantee any particular learning outcome, proficiency level, or exam result (including JLPT).

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law (for example, liability for fraud or gross negligence, or statutory consumer-protection rights that cannot be waived).

You may stop using the Service and cancel your subscription at any time (see our Refund Policy). We may terminate or suspend your account for breach of these Terms, as described in Section 7, or discontinue the Service with reasonable notice.

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated “Last updated” date on this page; continued use of the Service after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

These Terms are governed by the laws of Italy, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. If you are a consumer resident in the EU, you also benefit from any mandatory consumer-protection provisions of your own country of residence.
